Aweber Review - Autoresponder and Email Newsletter Service
You understand that an email newsletter is vital for your blog, and have decided to start one using an email newsletter service provider. Now, you are weighing your options.
Here is the review of Aweber – one of the leading email newsletter and autoresponder service available in the market today.
What qualifies me for the review?
Why am I writing this review, and why should you listen to me? Because I have been using Aweber for maintaining email lists for my blogs for more than 2 years.
This is long enough for me to try out its features, come across any possible issues and use its customer service. Therefore, I am writing this review from my own experience with Aweber over the years.
So here is the (very) detailed Aweber review!
Deliverability and reliability
There is no point in maintaining and growing your email list if you can not deliver your emails to your subscribers. That’s why, the email delivery rate or deliverability is the most crucial aspect of any email service.
Aweber boasts of the best email delivery rate among all email newsletter and autoresponder service providers.
While I can’t verify that claim, my experience about the delivery rates of my emails has been great. My emails have always reached my subscribers, and I have had no complaints about spa emails either from my subscribers or from email services like Gmail.
Aweber maintains a high email delivery rate and low “spam” complaints by doing a couple of things:
- It encourages you to have double opt-in for your email lists
- It checks your email and autoresponder messages to see if they would appear like spam to email services
- It removes email IDs from where the emails repeatedly bounce (undeliverable emails)
- It let’s your readers unsubscribe easily
Unlimited lists and unlimited emails
Aweber allows you to maintain unlimited email lists within your account. Also, you can send unlimited emails to your lists.
There is absolutely no extra charge for these!
Automatic creation of newsletter emails from your blog posts
Aweber makes the task of creating email newsletters really easy. You don’t have to create a newsletter each time you need to send an email. Aweber can automate this through your blog’s RSS feed.
You need to do a one-time set up of what Aweber calls a “blog boradcast”, and newsletters are sent out automatically whenever you have a new post on your blog.
And you get a lot of control:
- You can have the newsletter sent after X number of posts (instead of for every post – good for people who post multiple times a day)
- You can specify the exact day and time when the emails would be sent (you can send email when your subscribers are most likely to open them, thus increasing the open rate)
- You can send weekly summaries if you prefer that
Of course, apart from the automated newsletter option, you also get the option to send the newsletters completely manually.
Huge collection of templates and designs
Aweber offers you 100s of templates in multiple color-combinations – both for the emails and for the opt-in forms.
You can create emails and forms from these using the easy to use visual designer, or you can create your emails from scratch manually if you are an advanced user.
Emails
It has over 150 email templates available in both single and double column layouts. These can be customized to include your logo, and any other images or text that you want to include.
You can also personalize the emails using the subscriber’s name or any other information.
Opt-in / Subscription Forms
Aweber also has a ton of templates for the opt-in forms.
You can also customize these forms by including radio buttons, drop downs, etc. To increase the sign ups and opt in rate, you also get a facility to display the form as a lightbox – something that has been proven to increase the subscription rate.
Aweber also let’s you create multiple opt-in forms for the same list. If you want, you can rub an A/B split test between the forms to find out which one is the most effective!
Reporting and analytics features
Aweber offers you a LOT of data about your emails – you can use this to draw conclusions and discover trends, and use it to your advantage.
Aweber let’s you know:
- Who has and who has not opened your email
- Who has clicked the link(s) within the email
- What web pages were visited as a result of an email you sent, and how many times
- How many people have unsubscribed
- Which opt in form is converting the best
- And a lot more…
As I said earlier, this is a goldmine of data, and its usage is only limited by your imagination! (You can see some uses in the section below)
Segmenting your list
On top of this, Aweber gives you the facility to segment your subscribers based on these things. Now this is a very powerful feature.
Here are just a few uses of this features that would help you target your email list better:
- You cans see who has not opened a email, and send a repeat email to only these people – maybe with a different subject
- You can see who has clicked a product link within an email, and send a follow up email only to these people offering them more information, or offering them a discount
Autoresponder features
Let’s not forget that Aweber is not just an email newsletter provider – it is also an autoresponder service. What does this mean?
This means you can have a sequence of emails that are automatically sent to your subscribers! These emails can be used to send educational emails like e-courses, or can be set up in such a way that your marketing message or affiliate offers are sent out to your list!
You can select the exact time intervals to send these emails, and can choose the time of the day when the emails need to be delivered. Basically, you have total control over your autoresponder series.
The best part is that you can even attach files with your emails (not just autoresponder emails, but also the newsletter emails). This means that if you are offering a freebie like a free ebook or a free report for your subscribers, you can easily send it as an attachment.
And just like everything else with Aweber, you can customize your “last step” and “thanks for subscribing” pages – this can be used to offer stuff like unannounced bonuses, and is great for increasing your opt-in and retention rates. (You can see my custom “last step” page here)
Integrating with other software
Aweber has been in business for over 12 years, and therefore, has gained very wide acceptance.
It integrates very well with many 3rd party tools and software, like:
- PayPal
- Authorize.net
- E-Junkie
- 1 Shopping Cart
- Yahoo Small Business
- Member Gate
- and many more
Automating your business with Aweber
When you run your blog as a business, you would want to automate as many things as possible so that you can focus on actually running the blog. Aweber makes this easy for you.
You can set up rules to automatically subscribe and unsubscribe people from your lists based on certain actions. So for example, when someone buys a product from you, you can automatically subscribe them you your buyer’s list, and remove them from your prospect list!
You can imaging how immensely powerful this is!
Social media features
You can integrate your Aweber account with your Facebook and Twitter accounts.
When you do this, your email broadcasts can be automatically posted on your Facebook wall, and a link to the broadcast is tweeted to your Twitter followers.
In fact, you can even link multiple Twitter accounts with Aweber!
You also have the option to publish archives of your newsletters on the internet. This way, your subscribers can easily browse the past issues of your blog’s newsletter.
Customer support
Aweber has a great customer support team based out of Pennsylvania, USA. The staff is knowledgeable, and is very responsive. The support is available by phone, live chat and email.
Apart from the support, Aweber also have a great knowledge base – there are 100s of articles explaining each aspect of the service. In fact, there are lots of articles that teach you about the basics of autoresponders, email lists and email marketing in general.
Aweber also conducts free, live weekly webinars which also have question and answer sessions.
Switching to Aweber from another email newsletter service provider
If you already have your email list with another email provider, you can move the subscribers to Aweber.
That’s right – Aweber let’s you import subscribers to the lists you own! These subscribers are then sent a confirmation email wherein they confirm their subscription.
Also, for whatever reason, if you decide to switch from Aweber to another service, you can easily export your email lists – you don’t lost even a single contact!
Aweber Pricing Plans
In spite of all the features that Aweber offers, its plans are very, very reasonably priced.
Remember, Aweber does not charge on a per-list basis – its pricing is based on the number of subscribers that you have.
This helps you limit your payments when your blog – and your subscriber list – is small. Only when your blog and your email list grows, you have to pay more!
The plans start at just $19 a month. In fact, if you act now and sign up, you can get the first month for just $1.
Remember, you can use Aweber with full peace of mind, because all its plans come with a 30-day money back guarantee.
Aweber Discount / Aweber Discount Coupon Code
You might be curious about any discounts available for Aweber’s service. Well, there are absolutely no discounts available! I know this was not the answer you were looking for, but this is unfortunately true.
The only discount available is the discount for the first month, where you can try out Aweber’s service for just $1 for the first month.
For subsequent months, you pay just $19 a month. Now that is a very small price to pay for a feature-rich email newsletter and autoresponder service. Remember, you can send unlimited emails to your list even when you are at the lowest plan level!
